Getting to know Jennifer Kelly

Jennifer Kelly (she/her) is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW effective April 17, 2024) whose academic achievements and professional work history provided her opportunities to develop a wide range of therapeutic skills and a sincere respect and appreciation for diversity in the workplace, be it among colleagues or the service clientele. In 1998, she earned a master’s degree in criminal justice (Illinois State University), and in 2021, she earned a master’s degree in social work (Governors State University). In 2024, Jennifer retired from the field of community corrections after 23 years of service. A career in corrections provided Jennifer rich experiences and consistent opportunities to work with a diverse client population who varied greatly, in both historical background and personal perspectives. Jennifer has also worked in more therapeutic settings, including, a private practice and at an outpatient substance abuse clinic, providing services in individual and group settings. Professionally, Jennifer experienced a great deal of success in helping clients who presented with a variety of concerns, including, but not limited to, anxiety, depression, stress, anger, substance abuse and addiction, and those related to self-esteem. Jennifer attributes this success, in large part, to having an empathetic ear, a non-judgmental heart, and an inherently sincere interest in learning about her client’s lives and celebrating the life journey that is wholly unique to the person. Jennifer views her role in the therapeutic relationship as one that is collaborative and genuine, empowering clients to create goals that can be integrated into their daily lives. In her free time, Jennifer enjoys spending time with her family, walking her dog, and cultivating a garden that is not only atheistically pleasing, but is also a peaceful and welcoming place for all.
