Jennifer Mandato Trucios, MA

Psychotherapist
NY
I work primarily with adults who are navigating different stages of life and the expectations that often come with them—familial, societal, and professional. My approach is empathetic, supportive, and strength-based, with a focus on helping clients reflect inward and discover meaningful ways to move forward. Together, we explore your experiences, values, and goals so that you can develop a deeper understanding of yourself and feel more confident in the direction you choose for your life. In our sessions, I aim to create an honest, genuine, and personable atmosphere where you can feel comfortable showing up as your authentic self. My style is calm and supportive, while also gently challenging when growth calls for it—sometimes with a bit of humor along the way. I believe healing often happens through intentional inner work and learning to live according to your own values and expectations. And if you happen to enjoy anime, you might even hear a few analogies or life lessons drawn from those stories during our conversations. Starting therapy is not always easy, and for many people it can be accompanied by feelings of shame or stigma. However, seeking support is a powerful step toward improving overall well-being and creating meaningful change. If you are feeling lost, misunderstood, or overwhelmed by major life changes or transitions, therapy can offer a space to pause, reflect, and regain clarity. I strive to provide a listening ear, lived understanding, and genuine empathy as we work together.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I primarily support adults experiencing challenges such as anxiety, depression, mood disorders, grief, chronic illness, and significant life transitions. I also have experience working with individuals living with substance use disorders, developmental and physical disabilities, and those who have faced mental health crises. My therapeutic style is collaborative and individualized, drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT) to meet each person’s unique needs.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I became a clinician because I understand what it feels like to be alone with difficult thoughts and emotions, and how uncomfortable it can be to talk about personal experiences. In our work together, we can explore the topics that may feel hard to share and identify ways you would like to grow. My goal is to help you build on your strengths, address areas that feel challenging, and develop a stronger sense of self. I bring honesty, compassion, and support to the process, and I hope therapy becomes a place where you can feel more comfortable with yourself and discover the beauty within your journey of self-discovery.
