Getting to know Jennifer Pressey

Are you struggling with finding your place in this world? Are you sorting through questions of identity or questioning your sexuality? Do you struggle with not fitting in the typical narratives and norms of society and need a place to sort through it all? I am here to help you sort through it all with compassion, patience, empathy, skill and kindness. I am adept at helping people through all walks of life. I have personal experience with raising children with special needs and caregiving. I am no stranger to life within the LGBTQ+ community. I understand military life as a veteran and a spouse. I have extensive training on teaching skills, screening for suicidal ideation, and handling crisis. If any of these things resonate with you I will be happy to speak with you and see if we are a good fit. I am here to help!

What should a new client know about working with you?

I enjoy working collaboratively with my clients. Goals are something we come up with together and can be rearranged if they need to change. I often use Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and a person centered approach. I also enjoy doing integration for people who are undergoing psychedelic treatment.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

For a typical session we will first check in and see how things are going. Next we will review how any assignments went the past week. I often will assign homework such as practicing skills, using worksheets to log feelings and emotions, or even things like journaling or using art to process emotions. Once we talk about how things went with any assigned homework, we will move further into the session and work on processing, working towards goals, or perhaps me giving psychoeducation on a topic or issue related to what the session is about. I will always work collaboratively with my clients and if I need to pivot in a session I will. This is a team approach that I have.
