Getting to know Jennifer Spahr

I have been a mental health therapist for over 20 years and I believe it's my calling to help people. I am deeply compassionate and I am not afraid to meet you where you are. I am committed to developing a relationship with you that fosters authenticity, vulnerability, and safety. I approach therapy with empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental attitude and I often utilize humor, reflective listening, and gentle challenging during our sessions. What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe that an effective and therapeutic relationship begins with developing trust and security. I encourage vulnerability and that you just "be you." I provide a non-judgmental space for you to explore the places that scare you and I will be the support you need through these scary places and times. Utilizing humor, reflective listening, and gentle challenging, I'll guide you through the roadblocks that are keeping you from your full potential. I am highly optimistic, with a positive outlook on life, and I look forward to growing with you and watching you become your best person. I specialize in LGBTQ+ issues, spirituality, crisis intervention, depression, anxiety, trauma, suicidal ideation, and addiction but there is really no issue I'm fearful to discuss. In my 23-year career in crisis intervention I have been honored to be in the midst of other's darkest times, and I have witnessed the strength and resilience we all have. We are facing unprecedented times and we all need support. Despite the fear of "therapy," I believe that a healthy relationship between us fosters a space for true vulnerability and growth. You have nothing to fear; we will do this together! I will be honest, gentle, and sometimes challenging with you. If we both put in the work, we will do great things!

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Therapy shouldn't be scary! I provide a laid back approach to addressing some of life's toughest problems. Together we will explore the roadblocks and challenges that are keeping you from your full potential. There is no issue that I am afraid to face with you and I enjoy using narrative therapy because I believe that we are the stories we tell about ourselves. I can walk with you through past trauma, severe depression, suicidal thoughts, substance abuse, or just anything you may be afraid to face alone. Together, we will safely explore your past, we will create a plan action where you learn to challenge the thoughts and feelings that have negatively served you, and I will help you re-write stories the stories that keep you from living your best life.

I work with most major private insurance companies. I am not contracted with Medicaid or Medicare. Prior to getting you on the books, I offer a free 15 minute phone consultation to discuss what you are hoping to get out of counseling and to see if we are a good fit. I use Headway to store all client information and for billing services so I can focus more on client care. Once we establish care, you will receive a welcome email from Headway where you will be asked to complete some paperwork and input your insurance information. Co-pays and out of pocket rates differ based on insurance coverage.
