Getting to know Jennifer Varley

I’m Jen! I’m a licensed Psychotherapist and Hypnotherapist working with clients in both NY and PA. I have been working professionally in the field of mental health for fifteen years. If you’re looking for therapy that is compassionate, direct, and transformative that honors both evidence-based practice and the deeper human experience . I would be honored to support you on your path.

What should a new client know about working with you?

What is most important for clients to know about me is that my approach goes beyond traditional talk therapy and is rooted in deep, integrative healing of both the mind and body. In addition to being a licensed psychotherapist I am also a certified yoga teacher (CYT) and a trained energy healer. This informs my holistic understanding of healing. While psychoanalysis often focuses on insight through discussion of past experiences, and CBT emphasizes identifying and restructuring thoughts and behaviors, my work is designed to access and transform the underlying patterns that live in the subconscious and nervous system. I believe lasting change happens not only through insight, but through experiential work that helps the body and brain process unresolved material in a direct and supported way. My practice integrates evidence-based psychotherapy with modalities such as EMDR, hypnotherapy, somatic awareness, parts work, and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). These approaches allow us to work with trauma, anxiety, depression, and relational patterns at a deeper level than conversation alone. Rather than only analyzing why a pattern exists, we actively shift it. Sessions may include reflective dialogue, guided experiential processes, nervous system regulation techniques, or subconscious exploration, depending on your goals and readiness.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My typical process for working with clients begins with an initial consultation and assessment where I listen deeply to your story, understand your current challenges, and clarify your goals with you. From there, we collaboratively develop a flexible, personalized treatment plan that fits your needs and preferences rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach. I practice an integrative, mind-body oriented form of psychotherapy. I incorporate traditional talk therapy alongside evidence-based tools such as EMDR, hypnotherapy, somatic awareness and EFT. A typical session usually starts with a check-in about how you’re doing and where we left off last session as it relates to your goals. We then work together in a way that may involve reflective dialogue, exploration of subconscious patterns, nervous system regulation, or experiential exercises, always grounded in compassion and collaboration. I explain the rationale for each approach and invite your input so that the process feels empowering and supportive. Sessions are aimed not only at understanding patterns but also at developing insight, resilience, and practical tools you can use outside of our time together. My overall style is curious, direct, and client-centered, with a focus on healing through connection, awareness, and sustainable change.

More information on payments and coverage

I am considered an OON (Out of Network) provider which means I don’t take commercial insurance plans directly. You can use OON benefits or chose to just be whats called a cash pay client with no formal diagnosis to seek services/help. If you have questions about how to use OON benefits I am happy to answer any questions. I have a lot of experience helping others use these benefits to access the provider they want to see even if they are out of network like me. If you want to know the benefits of OON vs. Cash Pay I can speak to you about that as well. For OON clients I do provide what is called a superbill to you to submit to your insurance directly for reimbursement. You never have to chase me for paperwork needed for reimbursement as my automated system generates this document for you directly. You simply login to download it via my platform Simple Practice. To pay for services you upload a debit/credit or HSA card to my portal. It is a secure platform where I don’t even know your card infromation myself. Charges for sessions are done automatically using your preferred payment method the evening after an appointment. Every client recieves what is called a “Good Faith Estimate” for all services. This means there are never any suprises regarding billing for services. There is an agreement before starting care. I have personally used my insruance, OON benfits and paid cash for providers in the past depending on my needs. I understand the importance of this decision and I commit to helping folks understand their choices and options so you can make the best decision for your healing and future.
