Getting to know Jennifer Vaughan

I am a professional counselor with over 30 years experience that specializes in the care of children ages 4- 12 and the adults who love them. I provide in-person therapy with the children, but can provide virtual therapy/ parenting sessions with adults. I work with children who are experiencing anxiety, depression, life changes, behavior challenges, and social/ relational issues. I have been trained in a variety of modalities, but tend to lean towards cognitive behavioral therapy for my older kids and child-centered play therapy for the younger kids, and parent management strategies for parents with children with behavior concerns.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe for any therapy to work with a young child, there needs to be a team approach. Therefore I hope to work in partnership with the parents and those "grown ups" who interact with the child the most. Together, we can help your child grow and thrive!

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I first meet with the parents/ caretakers so that they may feel comfortable speaking openly about their concerns and any stresses that may be occuring within the family system. Then, usually at a separate time, I will meet the child. After this, we will rejoin to discuss my thoughts and my suggested plan of treatment. Every treatment plan is tailored to the child and discussed with the family and, if at all possible, with the child's participation.
