Getting to know Jennifer Williams

I have been working as a mental health therapist for 18 years and am passionate about helping clients work towards a path of healing and growth. I hold a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Medaille College, which has equipped me with the knowledge and skills to support my clients effectively. I understand how scary the therapy process can be, and I am here to assist in making this process as comfortable as possible. Together, we will work collaboratively on the goals that you have set for yourself.

What should a new client know about working with you?

At this time I offer telehealth visits only but will be also offering in person in the near future as I in the process of transitioning to an office space. The specific techniques that I utilize are CBT and DBT which are utilized to target negative thinking patterns and learn how to reframe those thoughts to build a more effective belief system. We will explore says to be mindful and remain in the present, along with exploring ways to regulate emotions in a healthy manner. I demonstrate empathy and a non-judgmental approach in the therapeutic setting, along with challenging behaviors and negative thought patterns in order to initiate growth and change.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first session will be more of an assessment to gain an understanding on the reasons you sought out therapy and start to look at patterns of behaviors, relationships, background history, and symptoms that you are struggling with and how they have been affecting your life. We will set goals at the end of each session, will process areas of your life that you are struggling with and will practice healthier coping tools to manage those stressors.
