Jeremy Barnett, LMHC

Psychotherapist
NY
As someone born and raised in New York City, I have had the pleasure of getting to know many people with diverse backgrounds, histories, beliefs, and cultures. It is through my interactions with people and a passion for helping others through emotional support, that I decided to pursue psychotherapy as a career. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Cognitive Science from Hartwick College and a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling from the Ferkauf School of Psychology at Yeshiva University. I am licensed in the state of New York to provide psychotherapy and currently offer teletherapy services to people with a wide variety of life challenges including addictive behaviors, grief and bereavement, depression, and anxiety. After graduating with my Master’s in 2014 I spent a total of six years between two of New York City’s most reputable outpatient substance abuse treatment facilities, Hazelden Betty Ford and Inter-Care. As of now I have worked with over a thousand individuals struggling with not only substance use issues, but depression, anxiety, significant grief, trauma, and other mental health challenges, many who have successfully completed treatment and gone on to live happier and healthier lives. The most important aspect of my work with my clients is the therapeutic relationship. I believe strongly that the therapy room needs to feel safe, and that it acts as a microcosm of the outside world. I prioritize trust, empathy, genuineness, and honest communication, and I frequently ask clients for feedback. I’m happy to listen but I’m also an active therapist and I want my clients to feel as though I’m on this journey with them. I’m very integrative in my approach and often combine aspects of talk therapy with practical tools and skills when appropriate.
