What should a new client know about working with you?

Hello, my name is Jermaine and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of Illinois. I have been engaged in the behavioral health field for the last 13 years with experience in community and hospital settings. I have worked with various populations within this field to help foster change within their lives. This would include individuals that present with depression, trauma, anxiety, relationship issues and processing disorders such as substance abuse and/or gambling. My clinical objective is to assist every individual in their therapeutic journey. In doing so, I wish to provide insight on effective ways to change thoughts which may produce undesired consequences. The intent is to establish a keen sense of introspection which allows individuals to transform their lives into a more meaningful and fulfilled experience. My counseling approach is rooted from a strength-based perspective and aligned towards constructive individual development. Core therapeutic techniques include Cognitive Behavioral Theory (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Narrative Therapy (NT) and Solution Focused Therapy (SFT). Intervention methods incorporate mindfulness practice and psychoeducation to enhance core knowledge. From an interpersonal perspective I am a goal-oriented person that enjoys traveling and spending time with my family. Furthermore, I am a die heart Chicago Bears, Chicago Bulls and Chicago White Sox fan. n addition, to being an ID Channel and crime mystery buff.

I hope I can be that person for you. -Set clear goals: It's important to have clear goals for therapy so that you and I are on the same page. In our first session, we will discuss your goals and work together to create a treatment plan that outlines the steps you will take to achieve those goals. - Try to be open and honest with me about your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I am here to help you, and I can only do so if I have a clear understanding of what's going on. - Trust the process: Therapy can be a long process, and it's important to trust that the work you're doing with me will pay off in the end. It's also important to be patient and not expect instant results. - Practice self-care: In addition to attending therapy sessions, it's important to practice self-care on a regular basis. This may include activities such as exercise, meditation, or spending time with loved ones. - Keep an open mind: Finally, it's important to keep an open mind and be willing to try new things. As your therapist, I may suggest different techniques or approaches that you haven't tried before, and it's important to be receptive to these suggestions.
