Jeseca Johnson, MS

Psychotherapist
611 W Jefferson St, Ste 201, Shorewood, IL
Jeseca Johnson is a pre-licensed provider working under the supervision of a licensed practitioner. Whether you’re a teen trying to navigate school and identity, or an adult wrestling with ADD/ADHD, a career crossroads, or anxiety and low self-worth, the hardest part is often just walking through the door. Jeseca Johnson knows that hesitation isn’t a flaw – it’s human. Jeseca didn’t take a straight path to becoming a therapist, either. A psychology course in college first pointed her toward this work, but self-doubt and outside pressure kept her from pursuing it for years. Through her own journey of self-reflection and guidance from mentors, she learned to unlearn old, limiting beliefs – and found her way to the career she’d always been drawn toward. That journey shapes how she shows up for clients now. As she puts it: “My biggest strength is my approachability. This quality enables my clients and me to establish a relationship and a comfortable environment in therapy quicker than others.” Jeseca holds an MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from National Louis University and works with teens and adults on ADD/ADHD, career development, life changes, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and stress management. Her approach blends Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and mindfulness – never rushing clients past their own pace. She’s not in the business of handing out quick fixes. She’s here to build a space where you feel genuinely seen, so the real work – reframing old beliefs, managing stress, gaining clarity – can happen at a pace that actually fits your life. Outside of the therapy room, Jeseca keeps upward of 30 houseplants alive, loves to travel, and is happiest around animals. Her dream side-career would be a tropical horticulturist.

What should a new client know about working with you?

There's no rush to be an open book before you're ready - honesty in therapy helps your progress, but sharing happens on your terms, not a script. I also tend to pick up on more than what's said out loud, which shapes how I show up in session. My biggest strength is being intuitive, which benefits clients because sometimes it's hard to express ourselves, but I can read between the lines that there is more you are trying to convey. That means I know when to ask a question, when to sit in silence, and when to slow down around something that clearly needs more space.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Sessions start with building a foundation of trust, since that's what makes real collaboration on your goals possible. From there, the process flows to whatever the moment calls for - sometimes that's digging into a specific feeling, sometimes it's sitting in silence, and sometimes it's simply working through whatever has come up that day. I'm not here to hand you absolute solutions; I'm here to provide a comfortable, safe space where you're seen and heard as we explore what matters to you.
