Jessica Brohmer, LMFT

Jessica Brohmer, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
I help people manage stress using mindfulness and a holistic blend of therapy techniques so you can learn new ways to respond to overwhelm, pressure, traumatic experiences, and more. I have additional training in working with the unique stresses of grief, veterans, first responders, survivors of torture, LGBTQ, and relationship issues. I am also trained in Somatic and Attachment Focused EMDR which is a holistic method of using bilateral stimulation to address stuck trauma memories. EMDR can create incredibly transformative experiences for people, though it is not for everyone. During our consultation, we can discuss if EMDR is right for you.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I have three core values that I bring to my therapy space. First, that your worth is intrinsic. Many of my clients are people pleasers and overachievers who, consciously or unconsciously, are trying to earn love and value through being useful or helpful. You don't have to do that. Love is your birthright. You are inherently and fundamentally worthy of love and kindness. Second, that you are doing the best you can with the knowledge and resources you have. Many of my clients are so, so hard on themselves. But it's easy to judge with the benefit of hindsight when we can see a more optimal route. Spending your time harshly judging yourself for not knowing the future is unhelpful and unkind. Instead, we can give grace to our past selves and decide what we can change about the future in light of our current understanding. Third, that your narrative shapes your world. No two people will experience the same thing in the same way. Our perception is incredibly powerful, and what we anticipate or focus on is what colors both the moment and our memories. Changing your mindset will change your experience. Reframing and retelling old memories in new ways can bring out new connections and change the way those memories feel.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Therapy with me is gentle and spacious. I'm not just here to offer you skills, though that is part of what we can do. My goal is to get to the roots of the issue and change your situation so your stress response can resolve and so you can navigate future stressors without feeling overwhelmed.
