Jess Clodfelter, MS, LCMHC, LPC, NCC, CCTP-II she/they  Thats a lotta letters, right? Heres what they mean: I graduated with my Masters in Counseling & Human Development, with a focus on Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Radford University in 2014. Im a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in NC & a Licensed Professional Counselor in SC. Im also a Level II Certified Clinical Trauma Professional - basically, Ive done a shit ton of school & training to make sure that I'm able to help my clients process trauma, work through triggers, & heal attachment wounds. Oh, and Im also a Nationally Certified Counselor, which means Ive passed the big-deal national exam, meet annoyingly strict training standards yearly, & keep up with my continuing ed (where I usually pick to do fun trainings around queer issues, gender & sexuality, attachment, & other fun things I'm interested in). I do it to make sure youre never left figuring it out all alone - "I gave my blood, sweat, and tears for this". Sure, Ive got the trainings, the credentials, & the fancy letters after my name - but who gives a shit if I don't vibe with you? Looking good on paper doesn't mean a damn thing to me. I believe the real magic in therapy happens when you trust me, we feel connected, & you feel genuinely seen. Our relationship? Thats the change-maker. The rest is just extra sparkle.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Therapy isn’t a one-size-fits-all service. Yeah, there are some things that are pretty standard across the board, but I believe therapy works best when it’s built for you - not just some cookie-cutter technique used for every client. What matters most to me is the relationship and rapport we build, so I use a person-centered approach in every session. From there, I take an eclectic & integrative approach to therapy, pulling from feminist therapy, narrative therapy, CBT, DBT, ACT, motivational interviewing, and trauma-focused modalities - whatever is best for your needs! I primarily work with the queer community & provide gender-affirming counseling, transgender-supportive therapy, help non-binary/enby & transgender folx navigate gender dysphoria, & offer LGBTQ therapy for anyone in the community. Don't worry if you're not a part of the LGBTQ community, though! There's a safe space here for you, too. I'm all about helping all kinds of people live their best lives in 2025. Whether you’re navigating life transitions, struggling with self-esteem or confidence issues, needing to learn how to accept your emotions fully without judgment, or struggling with those issues just women struggle with, I’m here for ya!

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I provide individual telehealth therapy for folx in North Carolina & South Carolina, that way you can get the support (cussing, reality checks, & good vibes) you need from the comfort of your space. As a non-binary (enby), queer-identifying therapist, I specialize in gender-affirming care. I'm also REAL passionate about providing trauma-informed, attachment-based therapy that’s built for you. Trust. Therapy doesn't work unless we have a great relationship & I make sure that our sessions are what YOU need. You shouldn't dread going to therapy more than you dread going to get a cavity filled.
