What should a new client know about working with you?

Starting therapy can feel like a big step. I want new clients to know there is no pressure to arrive with the right words or a perfectly organized explanation of what is wrong. That is what the first sessions are for. My style is warm, unhurried, and genuinely collaborative. I do not follow a rigid script or apply the same framework to every person. I pay close attention to what each client is actually carrying and adjust my approach accordingly. Some people need practical tools. Others need space to process and be heard. Most need both, and that shifts as the work deepens. For couples, I am especially intentional about ensuring both partners feel the relationship is the focus, rather than one person being identified as the problem. I hold that dynamic carefully throughout the work. I draw from Emotionally Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, CBT, and Play Therapy for younger clients. If faith or spirituality matters to you, she is comfortable integrating that. If it does not, that is completely fine. Sessions are available in English and Spanish, in person and virtually across Illinois. Whatever brought you here, you are in a good place to start.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first session is about getting to know you, not evaluating you. We use that time to understand what brought you in, what you have already tried, and what you are hoping this process might open up. There is no intake checklist to rush through. The goal is simply to start building a relationship where real work can happen. From there, early sessions focus on getting a clearer picture of what is going on beneath the surface. For individuals, that often means exploring patterns, history, and the stories you have been carrying. For couples, it means understanding each partner's experience and beginning to map the cycle that keeps pulling you apart. Once there is a shared sense of direction, sessions become more active. I bring in specific tools and approaches tailored to each client's needs, whether that is emotional processing, communication skills, narrative work, or something more experiential for younger clients. Progress is not always linear, and she openly normalizes that. Throughout the process, I check in regularly about how the work is landing. If something is not fitting, she adjusts. The goal is never to follow a predetermined path but to stay responsive to what you actually need at each stage. Most clients meet weekly, especially early on. Frequency can shift as the work progresses.
