I’m Jessica Shah, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate. I earned my Bachelor’s in Psychology and my Master’s in Social Work from Stony Brook University. Originally from New York, I now call North Carolina home. My background includes providing group therapy and community outreach in elementary school settings, along with crisis intervention and short-term therapeutic services for adolescents and adults in inpatient psychiatric care. I work with children, teens, and adults, drawing on CBT, DBT, solution-focused brief therapy, strengths-based therapy, and child-centered play therapy for younger clients. I believe therapy should be a collaborative, nonjudgmental space, and my goal is to ease your transition into the process so you feel safe, comfortable, and heard from the very first session.

Getting to know Jessica Shah

What should a new client know about working with you?

If you’re bringing in a child or teen, we’ll work on building coping skills, strengthening emotional regulation, and navigating school difficulties, and I’ll partner with your family throughout so support carries over at home. For adults, I focus on building insight, shifting unhelpful patterns, and working through life and career transitions alongside you. Whatever brings you in, I want our work together to feel collaborative and nonjudgmental — you set the pace, and my goal is simply to help you feel safe, comfortable, and heard as we go.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Before your first session, our Client Care Coordinator, Heather, will reach out to complete paperwork and make sure I’m a good match for what you’re looking for — so we can focus on you from the beginning. For adults, the first few sessions are about getting to know you, understanding what brings you to therapy, and identifying what you’d like to change or work toward. From there, I tailor therapy to your individual needs and goals. You’re the expert on your own life, and I bring the clinical knowledge and tools. Together, we’ll decide what feels most helpful and adjust along the way. For teens, a parent joins for part of the first session before I begin meeting individually with the teen. For younger children, the first session is parents only, with both parents encouraged to attend. If parents are divorced, both must consent to treatment. After that, I meet with your child using developmentally appropriate approaches such as Child-Centered Play Therapy, art, and sand tray therapy. I also meet with parents every 4–6 weeks to discuss progress and ways to support goals at home. Regardless of age, therapy is collaborative, individualized, and designed to grow and change with you.
