Jessica Twitchell, LCSW

Psychotherapist
IL
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker specializing in relational therapy, trauma therapy, and growth mindset therapy, with a focus on creativity, self-acceptance, and self-love. I hold a Master's in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. As a queer therapist, I understand the importance of feeling accepted and celebrated for who you are throughout the therapeutic process. I am passionate about working with individuals who identify as LGBTQ+ and clients who actively identify with or are exploring non-monogamous relationships (open, swinging, polyamory, etc.) and kink/BDSM. I deeply value everyone's unique identities and experiences. Social justice and understanding different experiences of marginalization are fundamental to my work as a therapist. My clients are diverse in every possible way, and that diversity is very meaningful to me as a clinician. My personal and professional values center on freedom through anti-oppression and healing frameworks. I offer a non-judgmental, sex-positive approach to therapy grounded in the belief that we are our own healers. I am committed to supporting individuals in healing themselves while recognizing the systems of oppression that harm us.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe we all have an inner knowing inside of us that can help us along our life path. My therapeutic approach is to help individuals follow this inner wisdom to a more fulfilling future. I am not the type of therapist who is going to give you answers but instead help you find the answers that are within you. I believe everything that we need to know to live a successful, thriving, abundant life resides inside of us and is cultivated through experiances. Therapy is a safe space to examine harmful intergenerational patterns and begin the process of change into a lighter future. I also enjoy working with individuals who identify as creatives and those who are interested in cultivating their creativity or artistry in their daily life. If you are feeling stuck or bored in your 9-5 or daily life and feeling ready to make a change to a more creative, exciting, and fulfilling life I would love to help you navigate that change!

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A typical session can vary week to week. It is important for me to meet my clients where they are at and with what they are bringing each week. I like to create a comfortable space that allows for a wide range of feelings and experiences. We can make room to be silly, funny, playful, serious, distraught, angry, and everything in between.
