Jesus Rivera, LPC

Psychotherapist
4200 Euclid Ave, Ste 104, Rolling Meadows, IL
I am a bilingual licensed professional counselor at Mosaic Wholeness Center in Rolling Meadows, Illinois, and I want to be upfront about what working with me looks like: I am warm, but I am also direct. I listen carefully, and then I actually engage with what you bring. If you are looking for someone to sit quietly and nod, I am probably not your person. If you are ready to understand yourself better and do something about it, I would love to work with you. I work with adults navigating chronic stress, anxiety, emotional overwhelm, life transitions, and questions around identity, purpose, and direction. I have a particular passion for supporting people dealing with problematic gambling, gambling-related stress, addiction recovery, and substance use concerns. These are areas I have invested in professionally and genuinely care about. I also care deeply about creating a space where clients feel truly understood, not just accommodated. For clients who want faith and spirituality woven into the process, that door is open. For those who do not, that is completely fine too. Before becoming a therapist, I spent 18 years as a para-educator working alongside people who needed someone to stay and not give up on them. I carry that same commitment into every session. Sessions available in person and virtually across Illinois.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I will not waste your time. From the first session, I am paying close attention to what is actually going on, not just what is on the surface. I bring structure and engagement to the work, which means you will leave sessions with something concrete, whether that is a clearer understanding of a pattern, a specific skill to practice, or simply a perspective you had not considered before. I also want you to know that nothing you bring in here will shock me. I have worked with people navigating addiction, gambling, shame, identity, and some of life's hardest seasons. You do not need to edit yourself to be welcome here. Sessions available in English and Spanish, in person and virtually.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first session is a real conversation, not an intake checklist. I want to understand what brought you in, what you have already tried, and what you are hoping will be different. I also use that time to be honest with you about whether I think I am the right fit for what you are carrying. From there, early sessions focus on getting underneath the presenting concern. For clients dealing with gambling or substance use, that means exploring not just the behavior but the stress, the triggers, and the emotional patterns driving it. For clients navigating anxiety, transitions, or identity questions, it means understanding the story beneath the struggle. Once we have that foundation, sessions become active. I draw from CBT and DBT to build practical skills alongside deeper self-understanding. I give honest feedback, check in regularly about how the work is landing, and adjust when something is not clicking. Most clients start weekly. Consistency is not optional in the early stages; it is what makes the work actually work.
