Joan Davis, LCSW

Psychotherapist
TX
Hi there, I'm Joan! My name is Joan Davis. I am an LCSW in Texas, license number 59761. I earned my Master's in Social Work from Texas A&M University. My approach to therapy comes from my family farm origin, living with seven siblings and hardworking parents. Our lives centered on the faith, attitude, and endurance needed to survive harsh conditions and depend on the beauty of nature to sustain us. In my adult years, my husband and I survived the loss of a 25-year-old business through a takeover led by a foreign entity and an unhappy employee. This loss led me to my true calling. The richness of the counseling relationship opened my eyes to the joy of helping others realize their self-worth. It is my hope to facilitate change that makes clients' lives more joyful and purposeful. My approach I believe in helping a person find themselves first, by naming the ethics and values they live by. From there, we understand what they need and want out of life. I work largely with existential, person-centered, and motivational tools to engage clients. Then, we learn mindfulness and use cognitive behavioral therapy to change how we think and process information. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) helps clients learn about feelings and how they originate from thoughts arising from events. This understanding creates emotional regulation. My goal is for clients to bring their emotional mind and reasonable mind together to form a wise mind. My focus I work with clients who have self-esteem issues, often related to anxiety, stress, life changes, and solution-focused concerns. I use mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy, and emotion-focused therapy. I address depression, life changes, aging problems, pain, grief, and childhood and adult trauma. I also work with parent-child issues, family dynamics, marriage, and divorce challenges.
