Getting to know Joanna Freda

I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor specializing in individual therapy with children, adolescents, and adults to help them achieve social, emotional, and mental wellness. I received my degree from St. John’s University in Queens, where I was born and raised. I have worked with a variety of populations including children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and adults with substance abuse disorders. Additionally, I am an ally to LGBTQ+ and BIPOC individuals. Currently, I work with children as young as 3 years old, adolescents and adults who experience challenges with feelings of anxiety, stress, depression, anger, divorce, social anxiety, school avoidance, relationship issues and more. Alongside working with your child/children, I provide support to you as their parents/guardians in order to help you feel supported as well as feel better able to support your child/children. I believe therapy should be strengths-based, person-centered, and solution-focused. I use an eclectic, integrative approach to assist you and your child/children in identifying your/their strengths, establishing goals, and reaching your fullest potential. In addition to being passionate about helping others through the therapeutic process, I also have over 10 years of experience of musical theater performance that I love to integrate into the therapeutic space with you/your child. Incorporating the creative connection in the therapeutic process will help you tap into your emotions and express yourself through play and art. I’m excited to create and connect with you!
