Getting to know Jocelyn Jimenez-Ruiz

Jocelyn Jimenez-Ruiz is a mental health counselor at Jeanes Mental Health Services (JMHS) who works with individuals dealing with trauma, relationship challenges, and patterns that continue to repeat despite their efforts to change them. Many of her clients understand what’s happening in their lives but struggle to identify why those patterns persist or how to shift them. Her approach focuses on identifying the underlying drivers of these patterns rather than only addressing surface-level symptoms. Jocelyn uses Psychodynamic Therapy, Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients examine early experiences, improve how they relate to others, and develop practical skills for managing emotions and distress. In sessions, Jocelyn is steady, thoughtful, and direct. She creates an empathetic environment where clients can look more closely at what’s been driving their behavior, gain clarity, and begin making changes that carry into their daily lives. Her work emphasizes depth, consistency, and follow-through over time. At JMHS, Jocelyn tailors her work to each individual, helping clients address trauma, improve relationships, and respond to challenges more effectively and intentionally. Clinical services are available in both English and Spanish. “We can choose to be a character in a story written by someone else or we can choose to be the author of our own story.”— Ruby Garcia

What should a new client know about working with you?

My therapy is grounded in three principles that I hold as truths. 1. A good therapist is aware that they do not have the answers but the tools to help the client find the answers. 2. Life is full of lessons that constantly repeat themselves. These lessons are designed to teach us the tools needed to be the best versions of ourselves. 3. Everything we experience is designed for our good. It is our job to find the good in challenges and grow into the best possible version of ourselves.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

At our first meeting, I want to truly understand what brought you here. I often rely on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) because of its transformative power. Together, we'll uncover how your thoughts shape your emotions. I'm here to support and guide you, helping you challenge those thoughts. Let's work side by side, paving your path to greater emotional peace and clarity.
