“Jody was great, she was right on time. She listened to everything I had to say and responded with answers that helped me to clarify my thoughts. It was our first appointment and we were still heavy into detail about things that were bothering me.”

Getting to know Jody Klaus

I am a licensed psychotherapist in the state of New York with over 15 years of professional experience. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Literature and Psychology from Brown University in 2006, followed by a Master of Social Work from New York University in 2010 and a Master’s in Clinical Psychology from Adelphi University’s Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies in 2016. Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to work with people across the lifespan, from young children to older adults. I primarily work with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, life transitions, relationship challenges, eating disorders, and addiction. I have training and certifications in several therapeutic approaches, including Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Schema Therapy.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, and centered around getting to know you as an individual. I believe there is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy, and I work together with each client to identify realistic goals and develop a treatment approach that feels meaningful and supportive. While I draw from a variety of evidence-based approaches—including CBT, ACT, DBT, REBT, Schema Therapy, somatic techniques, IFS, and attachment-focused therapy—I place the greatest emphasis on the relationship between therapist and client. I believe that feeling understood, respected, and comfortable in therapy is an important part of creating meaningful change.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Together, we will explore your unique experiences, strengths, and challenges and create a therapeutic experience tailored to your individual needs. My goal is to provide a safe, supportive space where you can feel comfortable being yourself, work through what may be holding you back, and move toward the life you want to create.
