Getting to know Joel Ferat

Joel has been working in the support field in a number of roles for over two decades. In 2009, he earned his Master’s in Social Work (MSW) from Loyola University Chicago and has since worked in various positions with diverse populations. He has worked with youth of all ages, families of various constructions, and adults in individual and couples therapy within outpatient settings. Joel meets populations where they are emotionally as well as physically, spending time in community-based work, residential placements, outpatient offices, virtual settings, and as a clinician at a therapeutic school. There, he supports the day-to-day school experience while navigating the education system to best support vulnerable learners and their families. Joel has continued his education over this time to become familiar with various modalities beyond those listed. He has completed trainings related to solution-focused therapy, motivational interviewing, play therapy, suicide prevention models, and population- and diagnosis-specific approaches to support people regardless of their struggles. Joel deeply recognizes the need for ongoing learning and approaching issues from new perspectives. He strives to exemplify this to those he works with by taking every opportunity to expand his professional knowledge and enhance effective intervention.
