"Special Note 07/10/2023 Re: Active military and military veterans, as well as immediate family members Because of the current shortage of experienced mental health professionals available to serve active military and veterans, as well as their immediate family members, my practice is prioritizing those members who need help. I will acknowledge and respond to any of your requests within twenty-four hours, usually within hours of receiving the request, along with a complete profile on the SonderMind website. Remember, our initial contacts are free of charge. Charges are only applied after we have discussed and agreed that I am the right professional for you or your family member. A little about me and why I can help: All of us are subject to emotional difficulties, especially during high intensity, whether good or bad times. Increased levels of stress often accompany major life transitions such as educational and career changes, financial difficulties, relationship challenges, illness, and loss, to name a few. Similarly, some of us are more likely to experience upsetting mood variations, depression, anxiety, sometimes both, often without rhyme and reason. Like your general health, at times your emotional health can suffer a change for the worse. When that happens, especially if you are experiencing a serious, persistent change in normal functioning, it is best to seek guidance from a professional. Someone who can help you better understand the nature of your upset, establish a plan of action, help you increase your coping skills, and guide you through the process until you feel better and ready to move on. Since 1987, I have been in full-time private practice as an Ohio licensed professional clinical counselor (LPCC-S). I also hold the counselor supervisor endorsement. I obtained a clinical counseling degree in 1981, Master of Education in Agency Counseling, Cleveland State University, Cleveland, Ohio.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Since 1987, I have been in full-time private practice as an Ohio licensed professional clinical counselor (LPCC-S). I also hold the counselor supervisor endorsement. I obtained a clinical counseling degree in 1981, Master of Education in Agency Counseling, Cleveland State University, Cleveland, Ohio. I am nationally, double board certified by the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC), as a National Certified Counselor (NCC), as well as a Master Addiction Counselor (MAC), 1995 to the present. My practice focus is on the mental and emotional health of adolescents and adults. I work with individuals and families. I provide individual, family, and group psychotherapy. I have a special interest, training, and experience working with disruptive behavior disorders (ADHD, Oppositional Defiant, Conduct); mood spectrum disorders (major depression, bipolar); substance use disorders; as well as anxiety spectrum disorders (PTSD, OCD, Social). Some of the problems I routinely address include, not an exhaustive list: substance abuse, anger, fear, anxiety, depression, loss, nightmares, social skills deficits, impulse control, inattention, poor work habits, disorganization, arguing, emotional dysregulation, defiance, bullying, being bullied, educational problems, family conflict, harm to self/others, violence assessment.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Some of the problems I routinely address include, not an exhaustive list: substance abuse, anger, fear, anxiety, depression, loss, nightmares, social skills deficits, impulse control, inattention, poor work habits, disorganization, arguing, emotional dysregulation, defiance, bullying, being bullied, educational problems, family conflict, harm to self/others, violence assessment. I began my career in mental health as a childcare worker with emotionally disturbed children and adolescents in residential treatment. Subsequently, I became a juvenile probation officer, followed by my first position as a counselor in a community health agency which provided mostly substance abuse services to adolescents and parents. I left the agency as the mental health center’s executive director, and established a private mental health practice which continues through today. In addition to my clinical degree and license as a counselor, I hold a non-clinical degree pertinent to my development as a counselor and my additional career as an applied social scientist. In 1994 I obtained the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Social Welfare, from the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio. As a social scientist, I provide mental health program consultation and development, expert witness testimony (Ohio juvenile, domestic and adult courts), as well as published peer-reviewed articles specific to substance abuse, adolescents, and adults.
