Getting to know John Bogardus

I only accept cash-pay patients. I do not accept insurance or prescribe medication. I am a licensed therapist with over three decades of clinical experience in private practice. I hold a Master's in Social Work from Smith College School for Social Work. As an experienced therapist, I have successfully worked with diverse individuals, helping them understand and make sense of their behavior and feelings in a safe environment. Through our collaboration, we uncover new solutions and opportunities for growth. My style is warm and interactive, yet direct when needed, and I am respectful of all individuals' spiritual beliefs or choice to embrace none. I work with individuals beyond adolescence. I am a member of The San Francisco Psychotherapy Group and have been part of its supervising and teaching faculty.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am here to help individuals achieve their goals by getting a better understanding of the factors that inhibit or frustrate them. When a person starts therapy, whether they have a clear notion of what they would like to accomplish or, perhaps, it's more of a vague notion that something "isn't right," I will listen and interact with you. We can explore the options, seeing what looks promising. By feeling understood we develop trust and go from there. I offer observations and feedback designed to get to the heart of the matter regarding your reasons for coming to therapy. I enjoy facilitating a process of discovery that leads to real results.
