Getting to know John Bradley Vien

Brad received his master of social work (MSW) degree from New York University where he specialized in clinical social work. While at NYU Brad completed training in psychodynamic psychotherapy as an intern at Manhattan’s Metropolitan Center for Mental Health. Following graduation, Brad completed three years of post-graduate training with Mental Health Service Corps (MHSC), an initiative of the NYC Mayor’s Office together with CUNY/Research Foundation, CUNY/Hunter College, and New York City Health + Hospitals to train clinical social workers to provide evidence-based psychotherapy to traditionally underserved populations in NYC. With MHSC Brad received intensive training and supervision in cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and motivational interviewing (MI). Brad has worked in outpatient substance treatment with NYC Health + Hospitals and New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell, treating patients with co-occurring substance use disorders and mental health disorders. He is currently a psychotherapist in Brooklyn at NYC H+H/Woodhull Hospital’s adult outpatient psychiatry program where he treats a large and diverse caseload of patients with anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, panic attacks and phobias, personality disorders, suicidality, and PTSD. He is also a psychotherapist with the group practice of Dr. Lira de la Rosa, LLC, in New York, NY. Prior to becoming a social worker, Brad was an adjunct instructor of logic and philosophy at the University of Kentucky. His academic interests are in ancient & medieval philosophy, metaphysics, epistemology, philosophy of religion, and Byzantine history and theology. He has an M.Div. from St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary.
