Hi there, I'm John! Hello! This is John Calendo, a Licensed Professional Counselor in Arizona. I create a safe space for adults and adolescents to address life stressors?often tied to negative beliefs formed through trauma?so they no longer damage personal and professional lives. I also help couples improve connection and conflict management. My approach I believe many diagnosable issues stem from trauma, so I focus on helping clients heal core traumatic issues. The approaches I find most helpful are EMDR Therapy, CBT, DBT, and Solution-Focused Therapy. For couples therapy, I use EFT and Gottman Therapy, developed through extensive research and shown to be highly effective. My focus I work with individual clients age 13 and older and couples age 18 and older. Individual clients often deal with anxiety, mood issues, interpersonal problems, and addictive behavior. Couples often suffer from poor communication and lack secure, healthy attachment. Couples often benefit from individual therapy to improve their relationship. My communication style You will experience a peaceful environment where you are listened to and asked thoughtful questions. I hold space for people and help them slow down enough to unpack significant aspects of their lives. You will feel seen, heard, and better understood through our sessions. My journey to mental healthcare I experienced significant trauma on my first day of life and witnessed how untreated trauma affected important people around me. I observed conflict cycles in relationships and the damage from isolation. I wanted to become a counselor to help break those cycles. I enjoy helping people unburden themselves from negative beliefs and distress. People fascinate me. Education I earned my Master?s in Counseling from Grand Canyon University, equipping me with the knowledge and skills to support clients effectively.
