Getting to know John Cox

My name is John Cox, and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC), practicing in person in Bakersfield, California, and accepting telehealth appointments serving clients throughout the state. I hold a Master’s degree in Psychology from the University of Phoenix. Having developed a love for psychology and a heart for people, I have been fortunate to serve individual clients aged 6-86, couples in various stages of growth, families with myriad levels of complexities, and groups from psychoeducational anger management to Youth Intensive Outpatient Programs. My approach My typical approach with new clients is to develop a collaborative understanding of the client’s needs, which allows the therapeutic process to move forward with clear expectations and a defined purpose. Treatment modalities may be adjusted based on client understanding of themselves, their place in this world, and the goals established through client/counselor engagement. My focus My client population varies widely. With a focus on the individual, couple, and family seeking therapy and having treated multiple disorders from anxiety and depression to developmental and substance use disorders, I have been able to serve many populations. As a husband, father of five, firefighter, and Air Force veteran, I have learned that value is in the person and not the category. My communication style I strive to communicate with clients in a manner that best suits them and creates an environment that encourages open communication with a calm presence.
