Getting to know John Dolores

Therapy is about you. Therapy sessions should be geared toward your needs, and my approach focuses on finding what is going to work for you. I do this collaboratively, working with you, not dictating to you. My approach to treatment is to listen. I believe that by listening and being nonjudgmental, clients can get to the heart of the matter sooner, creating the space for change and healing.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My ideal clients are adults finding it difficult to navigate the daily challenges that life puts in their way. Whether it is depression, anxiety, relationship issues, or stress, in handling our complex society, I am here to help. Communication is critical to the therapeutic process. I focus on empathic listening and responding. When I was a child, I was a great admirer of the healers in society. I looked up to them and wanted to become a healer myself.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I walk side-by-side with my clients, guiding them to the healing path. I do this by setting small achievable goals. I strive for progress, not perfection, with my clients. The first session involves gathering information so that I can fully understand a client's background and the reason that the client is seeking therapy. We will also focus on the client's goals and set a preliminary plan for the course of treatment.
