Getting to know John Jacobson

JD began his career working with underserved populations, witnessing the effects that complex trauma and generational abuse can have. He earned his Master's in Community Counseling from the University of North Carolina, Charlotte, and is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). JD has practiced in an inpatient psychiatric unit, a residential treatment center, a foster care agency, and San Antonio's largest psychiatric outpatient program. Specializing in adolescent, young adult, and family work, he was drawn to these populations, helping clients find hope and reconnect to their communities. His goal is to integrate the needs of individuals with the resources available to them in their community. JD, a Vanderbilt University graduate, originally hails from the green mountains of Alabama but considers himself a Texas expat. Loving the diversity of San Antonio, he enjoys all the city has to offer with his wife, two kids, and his dog, Jasper.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We’ll focus on creating an effective plan together to help you work through current crises quickly so you can start seeing real change in your life. Using empirically proven techniques including CBT, TF-CBT, and DBT strategies, my therapy is effective in helping you manage severe diagnoses, explore new possibilities, and make big improvements in your life.
