Getting to know John Muszynski
I have been a practicing therapist for over a decade and truly feel lucky to have found this work. Being able to accompany people on their path towards growth and healing is tremendously invigorating and rewarding. It is always inspiring to witness the human potential to transcend pain and suffering and be able to grow in the most difficult circumstances.
My education is in Social Work and I received my master’s degree at Loyola University Chicago. Since my graduation, I have trained extensively in cognitive behavioral approaches (CBT/DBT/ACT), Eye movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Somatic Experiencing (SE). I have also trained in specific focus areas including trauma, crisis, cultural awareness, LGBTQ+ cultural competency and ethics. I approach all practice through a lens of social equity and inclusivity.
Any effective treatment must begin with collaboration and connection. Through collaboration, we develop a deeper understanding of the presenting issues and set a path towards healing. I treat people in a way that approaches overwhelming symptoms and experiences in a manageable and caring way. I understand that people often engage in therapy only after years of intense and painful struggle. I honor and respect that struggle while offering hope and support in order to return to life.
What should a new client know about working with you?
I am very mindful of the vulnerability that is involved in beginning therapy. I take special care to allow people I meet with to feel comfortable and protected.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
It's most important to understand that my approach emphasizes collaboration. While I have significant post graduate training and ample experience, I approach therapy with humility and openness. This involves honoring every persons personal insight and wisdom and incorporating that into my own process for treatment.

John is awesome. He has this calming sense about him that is really refreshing when things are moving 1,000mph. He’s a great listener and always seems to understand what I am trying to say even when I think I don’t make sense. His sessions make me feel very comfortable and I never feel judged.

My initial appointment with John was fantastic. John took the time to truly read and understand my intake application before our appointment, and was ready to go with questions and clarifications from me when we started. I’m new to therapy, and John took the time to explain the different approaches he is trained in, and made sure I would be comfortable working with him.
I’m very happy with how my first appointment went, and look forward to our future appointments!
