Getting to know John O’Brien

Hello, I'm John, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) practicing in Ohio. I was born and raised in Gallipolis, Ohio, where I met my high school sweetheart, who is now my wife. Before diving into the world of mental health, I spent my twenties teaching 5th grade science at a local elementary school. My journey into mental health began in 2019 when I started graduate school at Ohio University, and I became a licensed counselor in 2021. By 2023, I achieved independent licensure as a counselor, and I am also EMDR-certified for trauma therapy. My passion is to see people's lives enhanced, healed, and made whole, and I am competent in several different therapy modalities to help achieve this goal. Whether you're dealing with anger management, life transitions, OCD, or any other mental health challenges, I'm here to support you. I specialize in a wide range of areas including addiction, anxiety, ADHD, autism spectrum support, bipolar disorder, children's and adolescent mental health, depression, family relationships, grief, military and veteran support, PTSD, and more. Working with me means you'll find a compassionate and understanding partner in your mental health journey. I believe in creating a safe and supportive environment where you can explore your thoughts and feelings without judgment. Outside of my professional life, I enjoy spending time with my family, which includes my two sons, Kael and Micah, who are 19 and 22 years old. We love going on fishing trips to Canada, hunting, kayaking, playing golf, hiking, and camping together. We also have two dogs, a beagle and a silky terrier, who are very much a part of our family. My core values revolve around empathy, integrity, and a genuine desire to help others. If you're ready to take the next step in your mental health journey, I invite you to reach out. Let's work together to enhance, heal, and make your life whole.
