John Spellacy, LCMHC

Psychotherapist
NH
A licensed clinical mental health counselor in the state of New Hampshire. I also am an ordained minister. Therapy is a relationship and every relationship with clients is different. My focal areas of practice are substance use disorders, adults with developmental disabilities, and mental health such as depression, anxiety, and loss. My approach I utilize a client-centered approach. I mainly utilize cognitive behavioral therapy, but utilize other approaches depending on the situation such as psychodynamic or mindfulness. My focus Most of the clients that I typically work with fall under the three categories mentioned previously mood difficulties(depression, anxiety, bipolar, etc.), substance use, and developmental disabilities. I also work with people from all different religious and spiritual backgrounds. My communication style It is very important to see what the client's needs and expectations are for therapy. Some come in for long-term, some short-term, and some very brief therapy. It is very important to know what the client is looking for in order to proceed. Working with me is a relationship that means feedback from both parties. My journey to mental healthcare I have always wanted to help others and I found myself listening to people with issues before I was a therapist and wanted to explore how I could help more. Many times people need a guide or someone with a better understanding whether it is about substance issues or navigating the process of divorce and custody issues. My goals for you Goal setting does not have to be complicated as it is simply what the client is looking to change and other aspects of their life they may not want to touch at all. It is a collaboration between what the client is looking for and developing the road map to get there. My first session with you The first session is usually about examining the expectations, and questions, and taking a look at the individual's history.
