Psychotherapist
AK
My name is John Sundeen and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Ketchikan, AK and working with clients statewide via telehealth. I work with teens and adults specializing in anxiety, depression, addiction, and relationship issues, utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Mindfulness to help my clients find resolution to their problems and build the skills necessary to handle future challenges. My approach My therapeutic approach varies based on the needs of the client I work with. I frequently utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness Therapy as these modalities help me and the client to build a shared understanding of their reality and allow us to develop a path forward. My focus I find my style and approach works well with teens and adults alike who may be dealing with past trauma, relationship issues, life transitions, and social pressures. This may take the form of anxiety, depression, and stress. I work to help my clients navigate these challenges and to build skills to address future challenges. My communication style My communication style is calm, accommodating and with a bit of humor. I want my clients to feel comfortable talking and sharing with me and I pride myself on the ability to listen without judgement. My journey to mental healthcare I decided to become a therapist because I am passionate about helping people. I started my journey as a pastoral counselor, and at one point it occurred to me that counseling would serve as a better career choice as I could possibly assist a wider audience. From that point on my passion has been helping people understand and resolve past traumas, addiction, and personal crises. My goals for you My approach to goal setting is all about collaborating together to define what you want to accomplish with our time together.
