What should a new client know about working with you?

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and I specialize in working with people who are struggling with mental health issues, substance abuse issues, or both concurrently. I also work with family members who are trying to support a Loved One who is struggling with these issues, and currently feel overwhelmed by their circumstances. I provide a safe and supportive environment for you to explore the issues that are concerning you now. I believe that you are the expert on what has and hasn't worked for you in the past but when life becomes overwhelming, we can sometimes lose sight of these skill and knowledge. I have found that many people often underestimate how much they know about themselves, and underestimate the strength that they possess to cope with and overcome the struggles in their lives. I see part of my role as helping you to unlock this knowledge and apply it in your life in the ways that work best for you.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

During our first session, we'll review any assessments that you have completed and begin the process of developing of developing the treatment goals that are important to you. I may ask questions that will help me to understand your goals more completely. My questions are always intended to understand what is important to you. If you don't feel comfortable answering a question, simply let me know that you don't want to answer the question. I see you as the navigator of each session, and since goals tend to evolve as you gain insight into what will work in your life, always feel free to let me know if you would like to modify a goal at any time. Every session is centered around you and what is important to you. We will take as much time as you need to work on a goal, and focus on the areas that are important to you at any given point in time. My schedule is very flexible so if you need to change appointment times for any reason, I can most likely can accommodate your wishes. I look forward to working with you.
