John Watkins, NCC, LPC Associate

Psychotherapist
TX
The provider is supervised by Damilola Adesina. I believe therapy is about more than symptom relief - it's about transformation, self-awareness, and lasting change. I know how hard it can be to ask for help; it's something I've struggled with too. I deeply respect the courage it takes to slow down and look inward, especially when everything looks "fine" from the outside. We all carry stories from our past, but we don't have to stay stuck in them. My goal is to offer a space where you can show up as your full, imperfect, evolving self. I hold a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northwestern University and a BA in Sociology from the University of Texas - Permian Basin. Between my education/training, as well as my past career in the arts and non-profit sector, I value considering the totality of a person and their environment when developing a treatment plan and conducting psychotherapy.

What should a new client know about working with you?

You've likely done a lot of things "right". From career to relationships, even past therapy - but does something feel off? Maybe you might feel disconnected, burned out, or like you're performing a role rather than living your life. I specialize in working with individuals and couples like you who are striving to reconcile their past, find meaning in their present, and create a more fulfilling future. Whether you're dealing with trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, perfectionism, life transitions, or substance issues, therapy can be a powerful space to get out of your head and reconnect with yourself. My style is warm, grounded, and insight-oriented, rooted in psychodynamic therapy. I also draw from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and existential thought. Together, we’ll explore patterns, beliefs, and coping strategies that may have helped you survive but now keep you stuck. My goal is to help you feel more clear, connected, and fully yourself.
