Johna Secrist, LICSW

Psychotherapist
WV
Hi there, I'm Johna! My name is Johna Secrist and I am a licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker. I am providing services in the state of West Virginia Via telehealth. I see adults and adolescents and use a variety of modalities including Person Centered therapy and Cognitive behavioral therapy. I see clients with a variety of issues including; anxiety, depression, mood disorders, substance abuse disorders and many other mental illnesses. My approach I most frequently use Person Centered therapy or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, as both modalities help me and the client build a shared understanding of their negative thought patterns and how to challenge and replace those while also meeting my client where they are in their mental health journey by providing acceptance, empathy and understanding. My focus I typically work with those clients that struggle with day to day stressors and a variety of mental illnesses. I am open to treating most types of issues with adults and adolescents. My communication style I use a very person centered approach and take time to build rapport and get to know my clients in a comfortable, non judgmental, safe space to discuss their many life stressors. I am very authentic and empathetic which allows my patients to feel at ease during sessions. My journey to mental healthcare I have been a caregiver for those around me in many ways throughout my life. People have naturally gravitated to me to talk about their hardships and stressors. I started out doing supportive counseling and fell in love with clinical work and knew this was the way I was to be of service to my community. My goals for you My approach to goal setting with clients is all about working together to define what you want to accomplish in our time together. This often starts by building trust between us, and getting comfortable with what it means to be in therapy. Over time, we will work together to set goals and expectations of your treatment.
