Getting to know Joi Basley
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Doctorate in Social Work from Capella University in Chicago, Illinois, bringing over 20 years of experience in social work and mental health, including more than 4 years as a psychotherapist. I have worked with clients facing a wide range of concerns, such as post-traumatic stress, depression, low self-esteem, relationship complications, family conflict, grief, loss, and emotional abuse.
While navigating the ebbs and flows of life, I too experienced grief, depression, and loss. I placed my mental health on the back burner and struggled to find my joy. I fought to develop the mindset and focus needed to discover my joy. Many pursue happiness; however, I have found happiness to be a temporal state, sustained by external factors. Joy, on the other hand, is permanent and sustained through personal, internal work.
My counseling style is empathetic, mindful, and client-centered, yet direct and straightforward. I believe in treating everyone with respect and dignity, but most importantly, I pride myself on demonstrating compassion for all and being sensitive to the needs of others. I look forward to working with you.
