“She provided a safe and comforting space for me to express myself. She clarified and asked important questions. It felt natural and she listened actively and was validating and interested in knowing more. At the end, she walked me through some deep breaths to leave everything in the session. It was wonderful, 10/10 would recommend. ”

Getting to know Joicy Salgado

English/Spanish-speaking psychotherapist Please be advised that we do not accept any insurances managed or connected with Medicaid or Medicare. Thank you. Joicy is the founding psychotherapist at Salgado Psychotherapy. She holds a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from the City University of New York, Brooklyn College, and is licensed to practice in New York. She has 9 years of experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly. She has supported individuals with a wide range of mental health conditions, from mild adjustment disorders to personality disorders. Her philosophy is that through conversation and exploration, we can become aware of patterns created through life experiences, develop healthy ways to navigate interactions, and have the opportunity to live a stable and healthy life. There is no “one size fits all” approach to therapy. Joicy uses a combination of practices focusing on psychodynamic, humanistic, and decolonized approaches to healing. She believes exploring current situations paired with reflecting on past experiences fosters awareness, which can drive change—if desired. As a first-generation Queer Quechua-Peruvian immigrant, Joicy relates to unique experiences individuals face alongside life’s challenges and mental health conditions. Her therapeutic training has aided various communities, and her personal experiences serve as a source of empathy. This includes, but is not limited to, immigrants, children of immigrants, BIPOC, racialized individuals, and communities. She supports clients in developing skills to navigate life, with a holistic focus on mental health. Allyship, privilege, racism, homophobia, colorism, the history of colonization on mental health, and intersectionality are topics discussed within the therapeutic process.

Joicy Salgado is a positive and empathetic mental health professional. I feel validated, comfortable and seen when speaking to her. What I like most is that I do not feel judged. Her approach is eclectic and she has been helped me identify the areas in my life where I can improve to have better interpersonal relationships and within myself as well.
Though my time with ms Salgado was short, I found out time constructive. She has a patient and compassionate a approach to counseling, which I found very beneficial. Instead of taking at me . She creates a dialogue and tries to have me come to my own conclusions and reflect on myself and my actions. Ms salgado was always thoughtful and kind.
