Psychotherapist
NY
I'm a licensed clinical social worker and AASECT-certified sex therapist specializing in couples therapy and sex therapy. I work with individuals and couples navigating challenges with intimacy, desire, communication, and connection. Whether you're facing a specific issue such as mismatched desire, recovering from infidelity, or difficulty talking about sex, or simply feel stuck in patterns that aren't working, I offer a nonjudgmental space to explore what's getting in the way and build something better. My approach draws from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and schema therapy, helping clients understand the deeper emotions and patterns shaping their relationships. I believe therapy works best when it's collaborative, direct, and tailored to who you actually are, not a one-size-fits-all formula. I see clients via telehealth throughout New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire, and Florida. If you're ready to start, I'd be glad to connect.

Getting to know Jonathan Prezant

I see clients via telehealth throughout New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire, and Florida. If you're ready to start, I'd be glad to connect.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I'm warm but direct. I'll ask real questions, offer my observations, and gently challenge patterns that might be keeping you stuck while always respecting your pace and autonomy. I don't believe therapy should feel like talking to a blank wall. You'll get a real person who's engaged, curious, and invested in helping you move forward. I also won't drag things out. My goal is to help you build the skills and insights you need, not to keep you in therapy forever. For couples: I'm not here to take sides or declare a winner. I'm here to help you both feel heard and to interrupt the cycles that are pulling you apart. If something isn't working in our sessions, I want to know. The best therapy happens when we can be honest with each other.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We'll start with an initial session to understand what's bringing you in, what you've already tried, and what you're hoping to get out of therapy. For couples, I typically meet with both partners together first, then schedule individual sessions with each of you before we continue as a trio. From there, sessions are conversational rather than scripted exercises or worksheets. We'll explore what's happening on the surface and what's driving it beneath the surface. I'll help you notice patterns, put words to emotions that are hard to articulate, and practice new ways of relating in real time. For sex therapy specifically, we will address the emotional, relational, and psychological dimensions of intimacy, things like desire, communication around sex, body image, or navigating differences in what each partner wants. I typically meet with clients weekly, especially at the start. As things progress, we often move to biweekly or as-needed.
