Starting with the first session, we begin to lay the foundation of our working relationship as we discuss your strengths, triumphs, and opportunities for growth and change. We will explore your background, including cultural influences, and what has made you, you. That first step of coming in can be difficult and uncomfortable, but the path it leads to can be an amazing journey of self-discovery. I hold a Master's in Clinical Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology Westwood Counseling Center, which informs my compassionate and individualized approach to care.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My name is Jonita Jacobs, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with a degree in Clinical Psychology-counseling specialization. I have over 20 years of experience in the mental health field. My experience is in many areas, but my focus has been on helping adolescents and adults that struggle with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and abuse. My other area of focus has been substance use disorders as I am also a Master’s level Certified Addiction Professional.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My style is individualized, suited to meet my clients where they are, and appreciate their intersections of diversity. I am person-centered, while empowering clients to explore their thoughts as it impacts their feelings and actions to provide practical coping skills. I utilize techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and mindfulness.
