Getting to know Jopy Baker

Hello! My name is Jopy Baker. I live in El Paso, Texas, with my wonderful wife and our two children. Life is busy, to say the least! When we're not working or in school (my wife is a 2nd grade teacher), we try to spend as much time outdoors as possible. I believe there is a healing element to nature, and I try to incorporate this into my own wellbeing as well as encourage others to unplug as often as they can. I attended The University of Texas at El Paso for both my undergraduate and graduate studies, graduating with a Master’s in Rehabilitation Counseling in 2015. Professionally, I've had the privilege of working with a wide variety of clients in multiple settings. I started my career working with adolescents in an inpatient treatment center and then spent two years working with adults in a correctional setting. Currently, I work full-time as a Military Family Life Counselor in a school setting. I specialize in treating trauma and have extensive experience working with individuals affected by depression, anxiety, and family/work stress. The therapeutic approaches I rely on most are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution-Focused Therapy. I also have training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which can be particularly effective for those dealing with trauma. I believe everyone can benefit from therapy. My goal is to create a supportive and non-judgmental environment where you can feel safe to explore your thoughts and feelings. Together, we can work on developing strategies to manage your challenges and improve your overall wellbeing.
