Getting to know Jordan Ottenbacher

I provide evidence-based clinical mental health counseling to individuals, couples, and families. Mental health can be daunting and is often complex. Just know that you don't have to face it alone. What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach to therapy is both pragmatic and emotionally-sensitive. I utilize several different methods, depending on whether I am working with individuals, couples, or parents with children. These methods include evidence-based practices such as the Gottman Method (couples) or Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. I find that the best methods are those that help my clients achieve results, with a wide-range of issues (addiction, marriage/parenting, trauma, etc.). I encourage my clients to set their expectations high, because I have seen the effectiveness that just a few sessions of counseling can have.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A typical session includes getting to know my clients concerns, building trust in the counseling process (and the counselor), and providing psychoeducation with some "takeaways" that setup our next session. My diagnostic process is that I typically take 2-3 sessions to inquire about symptoms, past mental health history, and current coping skills, before making a formal diagnosis. When making a treatment plan, my goal is to look at the whole person and provide necessary referrals when needed, that compliment the counseling process (psychiatry, family doctor, etc.).
