Through every hardship you encounter, you can pull through and gain more on the other end. What should a new client know about working with you?

My name is Josalynn Cartagena and I am an LPC and have my M.Ed. in school counseling. Before I moved to Texas, I attended the University of Central Florida with a bachelor’s degree in Communications focused in radio and television and graduated in 2006. After my first career in radio, I decided I wanted to do more to touch lives and became certified as a bilingual EC-4 teacher. After teaching for 10 years, I felt a calling to study counseling, since counseling had helped me overcome many of my own stress and anxiety due to childhood trauma. In 2018, I answered that call and graduated with my masters in school counseling from CA-CREP accredited Sam Houston State University. Since 2019 I have been working in public education as a middle and high school counselor. I also worked for a tutoring company doing behavioral coaching for youth and for another private practice seeing clients of all ages. In 2023, I started my own bilingual virtual private practice, Sol Shines On, PLLC to help people find hope and feel valued, heard and understood to discover a better outcome for their life and future. My goal as your counselor is to team up with you as you journey through this thing called life. I hope to help you find your purpose and reason for living. I cannot do all the work for you, but I can guide you, link arms with you and encourage you towards a brighter mentality, way and future. Being a teacher to very little ones for a decade, and a school counselor currently, and having worked with adult clients in my practicum, I Feel very comfortable with all age groups. I use the modalities of CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), Person Centered Theory and EMDR to process negative memories. I am constantly striving to grow myself with continued education, certifications and specialties to expand my knowledge as a counselor in ways I can continue to help you grow.
