Getting to know Josalynn Cartagena
I'm Josalynn Cartagena, an LPC with an M.Ed. in school counseling. I began my career in radio, having earned a Communication degree from the University of Central Florida. However, my longing to impact lives led me to become a bilingual EC-4 certified teacher. After a decade, inspired by how counseling had helped me deal with childhood trauma-induced stress and anxiety, I pursued a master's degree in school counseling from Sam Houston State University.
Since 2019, I've been a school counselor and behavioral coach in the public education sector. In my private practice, I've worked with clients across all ages. Furthermore, in 2023, I founded my bilingual virtual private practice, Sol Shines On, PLLC, with a focus on helping clients feel valued and hopeful and guiding them to a better future.
Outside work, I enjoy a variety of activities: travelling, reading, fine dining, salsa-dancing, visiting festivals and farmers markets, and most importantly, cherishing my time as a mother of three.
My role as your counselor is to be your ally in your life journey. My aim is to help you discover your purpose, guiding and encouraging you towards a bright future. My experience ranges from teaching young children, school counseling, to working with adult clients, which makes me comfortable dealing with all age groups. I use CBT, Person Centered Theory, and EMDR for processing negative memories. I am committed to expanding my counseling knowledge through continuous education and certifications to optimize the guidance I provide.
