Hi! I'm Joey Tanega. Starting therapy can feel like a big step, especially when it means inviting someone into parts of your life and relationships that may be difficult to talk about. I believe therapy should be a place where you feel comfortable being open, asking questions, and bringing your whole self into the room. I also recognize that my own identities and experiences shape how I see the world, including being a biracial, cisgender, heterosexual man raised in the southwest suburbs of Chicago. I value taking the time to understand the experiences, identities, and relationships that have shaped you and the way you see the world.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe the relationship we build in therapy is an important part of the process. I aim to create a space where you can speak openly, ask questions, and feel comfortable bringing your experiences into the room. I am passionate about how our relationships, families, and experiences shaped the way we view the world around us. Therapy is not about having all the answers; it is about having someone alongside you as you navigate what feels difficult, make sense of your experiences, and work toward what is important to you. My approach is informed by Family Systems, Person-Centered, Emotionally Focused, Multicultural, Intergenerational, and trauma-informed approaches.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I work with individuals, couples, and families, including children and adolescents, both in person and virtually. I have experience supporting people through relationship and family concerns, co-parenting, life transitions, trauma, and other challenges that can feel difficult to navigate alone. I also have experience using play therapy with children and adolescents. I welcome conversations about the people, cultures, identities, and experiences that are important to you. My goal is to create a space where you feel heard, respected, and supported as we work toward the changes that matter to you.
