What should a new client know about working with you?

Joey starts by getting to know you, understanding what brought you to therapy, and identifying what you would like to change. You don't need to come in with perfectly defined goals—you can figure those out together. From there, therapy is tailored to your needs. Sessions may focus on relationships, emotions, communication, family patterns, coping skills, or current stressors. With couples and families, Joey looks at the patterns happening between people rather than assigning blame. With children and teens, he adapts therapy to their age and incorporates parents, activities, or play-based approaches when appropriate. The goal is to help you better understand yourself and your relationships while developing changes that carry into everyday life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

You don’t need to know exactly what to say or have everything figured out before starting therapy. Joey is warm, down-to-earth, and nonjudgmental. He takes time to build trust and wants therapy to feel like a conversation rather than a clinical interview. This can be especially helpful for men, teens, or anyone who isn't naturally comfortable talking about emotions. Whether working with an individual, couple, or family, Joey focuses on helping clients feel understood while identifying patterns and creating meaningful change.
