Jose Turcios, APCC

Psychotherapist
CA
The provider is an Associate Professional Clinical Counselor and is currently working under the supervision of a licensed practitioner. Their current employer is Remarkable Services. Many children and families reach a place in life where things feel heavy and unclear, specially when they are going through immigration stress, foster care placement, or family separation. A lot of the kids I work with struggle with anger, defiance, anxiety, depression, substance use, and problems at school or at home, and many caregivers feel lost and don’t know what else to try. In my work as a bilingual (Spanish/English) clinical therapist, with over six years of experience, I have seen how these struggles can build over time if they are not supported. I have worked in residential homes, with immigrant children, and now with youth in the foster care system, including kids with autism and ADHD. I believe healing does not happen all at once, but little by little, when kids feel safe enough to express what they are holding inside. My approach is trauma informed and culturally responsive, focusing on emotional regulation, coping skills, communication, and learning how to keep going even when things are hard. Growth comes when we stop trying to rush the process and instead meet people where they are, because no child or family should have to walk through these moments alone.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My goal is to help you feel heard and understood. I take a collaborative strength-based approach to therapy, which means we will work together to explore your goals and identify individual strategies that work best for you. Therapy is a personal journey, and we will go at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In the beginning we focus on building our therapeutic relationship, helping us create a plan for our work together. Sessions will be guided by your needs and goals as we will explore your thoughts, emotions and behaviors as we introduce tools and/or strategies that may support you. As we proceed, we will reflect on your progress, as the goal is help you feel supported while building the skills and insights you need to create a healthier life.
