Getting to know Jose Valentin

I am a fully bilingual (English/Spanish) outpatient provider with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (PhD) from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Puerto Rico and an active license as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Connecticut. I also hold a Master’s in Organizational Psychology and a Bachelor’s degree from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Puerto Rico. Since 2012, I have worked in various clinical roles focusing on mental health and counseling services under supervision of licensed clinical psychologists. I obtained my doctorate in 2017 and have extensive clinical experience in individual, family, group, and couples psychotherapy. These are applied within clinical approaches such as psychoanalytical, psychodynamic, trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, multimodal, dialectical behavioral therapy, play therapy, narrative, expressive psychotherapies, motivational interviewing, and existential/humanistic approaches. I consider a holistic analysis to address psychological triggers, behavioral responses, and distress clients may experience. I have experience and training in psychological testing, including psychoeducational, neuropsychological, and personality assessments, to provide diagnostic clarity to clinicians regarding mental health conditions. I have worked with an emphasis on health psychology and clinical interventions to support crisis management, minimize trauma effects, and assist clients diagnosed with PTSD and other conditions such as psychosis, schizophrenia, addiction, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, and behavioral problems. I collaborate closely with clients to establish clinical goals that identify their short- and long-term objectives, addressing the psychological needs of diverse populations including children, teenagers, adults, veterans, and geriatric clients.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Throughout the years, I have worked with my clients to become empowered in their life direction and to overcome the difficulties associated with their past traumas. Helping and guiding them to gain the insight needed through deep psychological interventions so they may learn to cope and manage their daily life experiences. Various of the client I have been able to work with, have come from diverse cultural backgrounds, ages and psychological disorders. Working collaboratively along with my clients have lead them build resilience, self awareness of their strengths and capacity to problem solve their internal conflicts.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
