Getting to know Josef Smith

I’m Josef E. Smith, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). After a fruitful 22-year career in the U.S. Army, I finished my education with a Master’s in Social Work (emphasis in Military and their families) from Walden University. I have 5 years' experience working in outpatient and crisis settings in a rural community. I use a multitude of modalities to help people overcome the stressors and stigma of mental health challenges. I use a trauma-informed approach to every situation. My passion is helping people realize their own value and resilience. With a wholistic approach, including the dynamics of spirituality with a Biblical approach, and the importance of one’s faith, it is my experience that we can and do heal. Mental health challenges are especially unique when they involve trauma. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). One of the most clinically effective treatments for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other trauma related stressors. Service is the most important thing we can do for one another. I also serve as the President and Treasurer of the Board of directors for a local not-for-profit charity that helps provided needed items for our local homeless population and as the Music Director at my church.
