“Joseph is an Angel sent from heaven, that is the best way I can describe him. Not only is he kind, attentive, and genuine, but he is SO intellectually talented! He is a great listener and has now become someone I trust to share everything in my life, things I have never even shared with myself because I wasn't honest with myself. He is one of the most genuine souls I have ever met and he changed my perspective on life in ways I didn't think was possible. I am a better daughter, friend, and overall human because of him! If you are seeking a therapist, this is the one, seriously, do yourself a favor and connect with Joseph. I will never go to another therapist in my life. I am forever grateful to the universe because I crossed paths with Joseph. I can write a book about Joseph but I will just leave it with this - everyone just needs a big cup of Joe in their lives :) ”

Getting to know Joseph Barbera

*This provider does not accept any Medicaid or Medicare plans* Ever felt like the world around you isn't designed with you in mind' Like your voice isn't echoing as loudly or as clearly as it should' I'm on your team, and I'm here to validate what you're going through, especially if you've experienced life from a marginalized perspective. I also want you to know there's a space here for you-a sanctuary where your story is heard, acknowledged, and celebrated. I earned my Master's in Social Work from the State University of New York, Stony Brook, and have worked hard to understand the complexities of the human experience academically by studying Applied Behavior Analysis. But beyond textbooks, my approach is grounded in human connection. Together, we'll discover your authentic self so you can move through the world more freely. Our sessions will reflect mutual respect and authenticity, guided by principles like humility and self-reflection. I often recall Rumi's words, "The wound is the place where light enters you." Through our work, we'll tap into this light, allowing it to heal and guide. When the weight of the world seems overwhelming, or when sorrow seeps in, remember that time has a gentle way of healing. We'll learn acceptance in the process, allowing the light to mend, warm, and lead us toward newfound clarity. Joseph Barbera has a Master’s in Social Work from Stony Brook University. Joseph is a Licensed Master Social Work, LMSW 118622 at Cerebral. Supervised by Leslie M. Faerstein, Ed.D., Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW PR015207.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I have found that my top skill sets lie in working with children, teens, and adults within individual, group, and couples therapeutic settings. I help individuals who are struggling with anxiety, stress, LGBTQIA+ navigation, life transitions, and other obstacles in life we all face.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I thrive on exploring human nature, identifying individual strengths, and creating human connections. I bring these values into my sessions and will work with you to uncover your inner strengths and resilience so you can take positive steps forward into the life you envision for yourself. In our sessions, I will give you the space to share your stories, unpack the weight you have been carrying, and guide you through discovering yourself on a more personal level. Joseph is the best, I cannot recommend him enough. I look forward to our sessions every week. He is thoughtful, understanding, and remembers everything I tell him. I truly feel like he gets me and that is rare to find in a therapist. 10/10
