Joseph Ianora, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
I am a LMFT # 36596. Although I have been trained in the Rogerian model (interchangeable empathy), I have found that not all clients respond to this model. In my practice, I believe the slogan, "one size fits all" is a misnomer...one size fits one (is my belief). I believe in using a therapeutic model (or models) that will help bring about change and growth for my client. I have found this type of flexibility allows the client to become a better, healthier, and more productive version of themself. My approach I am a Rogerian by education. However, I have found that the "one size fits all" mentality, doesn't work very well in a therapeutic practice. I enjoy using brief therapy, cognitive therapy, solution-focused therapy, or a combination of therapies tailored to fit the client's needs. My focus I have had a very wide range of clientele throughout my practice. I enjoy working with Teenagers, parents, individuals, and couples. Much of my work is around anxiety, self-esteem, and relational struggles. Recently, I have been doing a lot of work around Narcissistic Abuse. My communication style I try to create a warm and friendly environment and, I am direct - not in a mean way, but I can, and do, call clients out on their incongruencies, gently to help them move forward instead of a continued spiral. My journey to mental healthcare I have always had a listening ear and a knack for helping others find solutions to a problem they may have been struggling with. When I started teaching, eclectic groups of students would come to my classroom during brunch and lunch to hang out...sometimes for conversation and sometimes because I had created a "safe space". This morphed into me getting my MFT and PPS, and becoming a school counselor. I started a private practice. In the schools, I found that my clients were split equally among three groups - students, teachers, and parents.
