Getting to know Joseph Martinez

Welcome. My name is Joseph Martinez, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) based in Pasadena, California, seeing clients both by Telehealth and in person. I earned my Master's in Clinical Psychology from Azusa Pacific University. I work with teens, adults, and couples, primarily focusing on trauma, sexual addictions, betrayal trauma, and grief. I use cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and EMDR to help you work through these difficult times and hopefully feel better. My approach Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all process. After working with you to determine your needs and what works best for you, we go from there. I mostly use psychodynamic approaches to understand your history and how you developed as a person so we both can gain insight into the patterns that are being repeated in your life. I also incorporate cognitive behavioral therapy and EMDR as needed to help break those patterns once we understand the ?why.? My focus I typically work with adults struggling with sexual addiction, such as pornography or other acting-out behaviors, couples who have experienced infidelity, and those suffering from the effects of trauma-whether childhood trauma or events that have happened in their adult years. My communication style This is your space and your therapy. I work to create an environment where you feel free to be yourself, be vulnerable, and feel safe while doing it. I provide a casual space that doesn't feel ?stuffy? or like you're being ?analyzed? the entire time. I pride myself on the atmosphere I am able to provide. You are giving me the privilege of hearing your story, and I want to honor that.
